Year 2

With Ten Forward celebrating her first anniversary in August of 1998 things were going well for the site and her membership. The roles of the Departments were becoming more and more integral to the site's operation, and also to promotions.

Between December of 1997 and March of 1999, the site was being further developed by the membership -- a resource that, at that time, very few sites on the Internet were utilising. Yet, although the membership wasn't making major changes, they felt that they were contributing to the site. This is possibly one of the main reasons that Ten Forward was able to build up a large membership and maintain a loyal base of chatters, who were ready and willing to work.

Eventually, in March of 1999, due to the ever-increasing number of members, it became apparent that Ten Forward was going to need a domain name of its own. Andrew Maxwell explains how and why "Outpost 10F" was the domain of choice.

"Outpost 10F." When we purchased the domain name the only site feature we really had was the Star Trek chat room, called "Ten Forward." However we wanted to expand the site to include other features. The "Outpost" reflected our interest in expanding the content of the site while the "10F" was a numerical representation of "Ten Forward," i.e. 10-F."

The First OTF Logo was quickly designed in March of 1999, representing the new era for the site and it's membership.

It wasn't long after, in June of 1999, that the first official Outpost 10F Union took place. The event was held in Las Vegas, with approximately 25 people from all over the world attending for the weekend. From the stories still told about this event it is clear that it was pinnacle moment in the history of OTF.

As the second year came to it's conclusion, OTF had her first ever live interview in July '99. The event saw the attendence of a special guest, the Author of "Future Perfect - How Star Trek Has Conquered Planet Earth". Suffice it to say the event was a success, with only one questionable incident having occurred. One member, who shall remain namless (it was a she and her name begins with a P), used the armory to wedgie our guest.
